Welcome to Career Launcher!

 

Career Launcher is an innovative and comprehensive new professional training program designed for court reporting students, new professionals, or anyone who needs a crash course in the life of a deposition reporter. This program is asynchronous and consists of 10 video mock deposition modules. Students can work through the program at their own pace. Candidates will benefit from more than 150 years of cumulative experience from leading industry professionals as they navigate the myriad circumstances and environments that they will encounter in their career.

Writing is the core of what court reporters do, but being a great writer alone doesn’t fully prepare you for the full experience of the deposition process. The quality of your transcript will be the ultimate evidence of your capabilities and value to the clients. Completing this program will distinguish you from your colleagues and make you a more qualified and learned reporter on day one.

What You'll Learn
General Education Requirements
MODULE 1: Examination Under Oath

Introduction to basic deposition protocols such as elements for Examination Under Oath proceedings.

MODULE 2: Car Wreck, (plaintiff medical)

Basic deposition protocols, primarily what to do with common situations or requests such as affirming a witness, marking exhibits, going off the record, seating, confidential information/redactions, and stipulations.

MODULE 3: Slip and Fall (personal injury)

Basic deposition protocols with exposure to other common deposition practices including consecutive exhibits, exhibit custodianship, deposition culmination (adjourn/concluded), parentheticals for nonverbal information, and attorney transcript orders. 

MODULE 4: Workers’ Comp (hearing)

Basic protocols for hearings such as Workers’ Comp and arbitration proceedings.

MODULE 5: Divorce

Exposure to everyday situations such as retention of exhibits, striking questions, special requests, late-filed exhibits, witness signature/waiving, and how a videographer can be a great asset.

MODULE 6: Employment (interpreted)

Exposure to the many special circumstances that accompany interpreted depositions, such as swearing in two participants, proper etiquette to communicate with a non-English speaking witness, answers by a witness given in English and not interpreted, as well as how to reflect the additional participant(s) on your appearance page.  

MODULE 7: Corporate Representative

Techniques for handling pre-deposition information, unique notary processes, communicating preferred seating, transcript confidentiality designations, tracking time limits, extensive document review, instructions not to answer, and the myriad methods for memorializing attorney transcript orders.

MODULE 8: International Trade Commission (ITC) Patent

Techniques for how to manage telephonic appearances, timestamping/syncing, read-back techniques, patent number handling, simultaneous crosstalk, the need to maintain professional neutrality, and the ever-important question of when to go off the record.

MODULE 9: Business Litigation

Exposure to situations that provide valuable research resources.

MODULE 10: Heavy Medical

Techniques for ensuring adequate setup time, how to deal with dense medical terminology, the value of utilizing exhibits and searching internet medical sources for transcript accuracy, as well as ensuring your clients receive their requested format(s).

  • Candidates must be in a stenographic court reporting program or learning how to write steno on a stenographic machine.
  • Candidates must be at 180 wpm or higher; or entering into their internship program.
  • To successfully complete the program, all candidates must complete and receive a passing grade for all ten modules within within ten months (300 days) of the purchase date.
