NCRF Student Intern Scholarship

Application period: Sept. 1–Dec. 4, 2026

The NCRF Student Intern Scholarship provides four $2,000 awards annually to high-achieving court reporting and captioning students who have completed the internship portion of their education and are preparing to take the next step into their professional careers.

Scholarship requirements

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a current NCRA student member.
  • Be enrolled in a stenographic court reporting or captioning program.
  • Have completed an internship within the past 12 months in one of three career paths: judicial court reporting, CART, or captioning.
  • For students in a judicial court reporting program, have passed at least one program Q&A test at a minimum of 180 wpm.
  • For students in a CART or captioning program, have passed at least one literary test at a minimum of 160 wpm.
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

IMPORTANT – Submission requirements:
  • File naming: Files must include the applicant's last name, first name, and document type. Files that are not clearly labeled will not be reviewed.
    Format: LastName_FirstName_DocumentType | Example: Smith_Jane_Essay
  • Essay file naming: Include the applicant’s last name, first name, document type and essay topic. Example: Smith_Jane_Essay_EssayTopic

Applicants must submit:

  • Application form (available when applications open);
  • Most recent academic transcript;
  • An essay of 400 words or less on the following topic:
    The court reporting and captioning professions are evolving rapidly. What innovations, strategies, or personal approaches will help you thrive in a changing environment? Explain how these will support your growth, professional involvement, and long-term success.

Additional required materials:

  • Letter of recommendation: An instructor, internship supervisor, or current or former work supervisor must email a letter addressing the applicant’s experience and performance to ncrfoundation@ncra.org.
  • Student verification form: Download the Student verification form (PDF) and provide it to the appropriate school official for completion. The school official must email the completed form to ncrfoundation@ncra.org.
