Position Description:
Provides court reporting services for judicial proceedings; transcribes records of judicial proceedings for judges and attorneys; and performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities, as stated in Government Code – Section 52.046– General Powers and Duties:
- Attend all sessions of the court;
- Take full shorthand notes of oral testimony offered before the court, including objections made to the admissibility of evidence, court rulings and remarks on the objections, and exceptions to the rulings;
- Take full shorthand notes of closing arguments, court rulings and remarks on the objections, and exceptions to the rulings;
- Preserve the notes for future reference for three years in civil cases and 15 years in criminal cases from the date on which they were taken, or as otherwise determined by statute;
- Furnish a transcript of the reported evidence or other proceedings, in whole or in part, as provided by Chapter 52;
- An official court reporter of a district court may conduct the deposition of witnesses, receive and make a certificate of the proceedings anywhere in the State of Texas;
- The Supreme Court may adopt rules consistent with the relevant statutes to provide for the duties of official court reporters in all judicial proceedings.
