Karen Tyler joined NCRA in 1978 as a court reporting student and has been working as a court reporter since 1979. She started her career as an official state court reporter in Shreveport, followed by working as a federal official court reporter in the mid-1990s. She has been the owner of a boutique court reporting practice for more than 25 years.

Tyler, who is certified to work in Louisiana and Texas, holds the nationally recognized professional certifications of Registered Diplomat Reporter (RDR), Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR), and Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC).

At the national level, she has competed in the NCRA Speed and Realtime contests each year since 2013. She has also served on numerous NCRA committees including as chair of the Student Committee. She has also served on NCRA’s Skills Test Writing, Nominating, and Education committees. She was recently appointed to serve on the Proofreading Advisory Council.
