Third-Party Continuing Education

Third-Party Continuing Education includes learning opportunities offered outside of NCRA that may qualify for CEUs or PDCs. Options include approved events and qualified programs from approved vendors. Review the details below to determine eligibility and credit requirements.

Approved events

Approved events are live conventions, conferences, webinars, or workshops provided by a state association or third-party vendor that have been fully reviewed and approved for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or Professional Development Credits (PDCs) by the Council of the Academy of Professional Reporters (CAPR).

During a pre-approved event, the event sponsor will track attendance and report that information to NCRA electronically for proper credentialing. Event attendance reporting is due to NCRA no later than 30 days after completion of the event to ensure proper and timely credentialing for our members.

Event pre-approval process

Steps to get your live event pre-approved:

  • Complete the seminar approval application.
  • Annual fees are now charged for the first application of the year for an organization as well as application fees. The new fee schedule is here. Applicants will fall into different pricing tiers described below:
    • Tier 1 - NCRA affiliate associations
    • Tier 2 - Other non-profit reporter associations and schools, government agencies and courts
    • Tier 3 - For-profit reporter groups and schools, firms, and vendors
  • Submit the application 60 days prior to the live event. Late fees are assessed on a sliding scale for applications submitted less than 60 days in advance. Please see the seminar approval application for more details.
  • Include a complete course outline and presenter bio(s) (even if the presenter has been approved for a prior event). Include an event brochure or agenda, where possible.
  • Send the application packet to the Credentialing Coordinator via email, fax (703-391-0629), or mail: NCRA, 12355 Sunrise Valley Drive, Suite 610, Reston, VA 20191.

Seminar attendance reporting

Fees are now charged for recording member CEUs. Please see the seminar attendance report cover sheet for details.

All attendance reporting needs to come back to NCRA electronically. An example of a seminar attendance report can be found seminar attendance report.

Punch cards are no longer printed, provided, or used by NCRA.

The attendance report is due back to NCRA not later than 30 days after the completion of the event for proper and timely credentialing. Late fees will be assessed to late attendance reports as follows:

  • 1-30 days late = $50
  • 31-60 days late = $100
  • 61-90 days late = $150

Attendance reports should be emailed to the Credentialing Coordinator or faxed to 703-391-0629.

Qualified programs

Qualified programs are programs offered by third party vendors that have been fully reviewed and qualified as acceptable for CEUs or PDCs by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA). After successful completion of qualified programs, an individual submission for CEUs or PDCs (accompanied by the appropriate fee) will be necessary before credits will be awarded.
