The Certified Court Reporter position requires a high school diploma or GED and formal training in court reporting, with preference for an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science for Court/Conference Reporting and at least two years of experience as a full-time Certified Court Reporter. Candidates must hold current Texas Certified Shorthand Reporter licensure under the Texas Government Code and maintain required continuing education.

Under limited supervision, the reporter is a sworn officer of the court who attends all court sessions, creates and preserves a complete verbatim record of proceedings, reads back testimony when requested, files exhibits, and produces certified transcripts in compliance with statutory deadlines. The role requires strict adherence to courtroom procedures, confidentiality, and record integrity, as well as maintaining reporting equipment and software. The position involves frequent interaction with judges, attorneys, court staff, jurors, agencies, and the public. Essential skills include legal and medical terminology, courtroom and appellate rules, strong communication, accuracy under pressure, customer service, teamwork, and the ability to work independently.
