Get ready for intensive grassroots advocacy learning opportunities, and network with other NCRA members who are passionate about the profession at the 2024 NCRA Leadership & Legislative Boot Camp.
This session will give you a brief understanding of American politics and how Capitol Hill really operates. It will focus on how legislation is created, how bills become laws, and how you and your grassroots advocacy efforts influence this process.
Drawing on his many years of experience as an association executive, Dave will present What You Wished You Knew Before Becoming Association President. Based on your feedback, he will offer practical tips and advice on how to be more effective in governing your association, leading your board, and managing your committees. He will also facilitate a discussion answering your questions about association leadership.
We want to show you NCRA’s tools and resources that will help you to effectively advocate for the court reporting, captioning, and legal videography professions in your state and in Congress. This presentation will showcase NCRA Government Relations’ resources and will keep you up to date on NCRA’s current federal legislation.
Incorporating grassroots advocacy into your state association’s overall strategy is necessary to create change and have a maximum impact. Learn how to construct a full-scale grassroots campaign to galvanize court reporters in your state to act as advocates for the profession.
In this session, you will learn the details of the mock U.S. Senate Committee hearing scenarios and the background information on how to make your arguments and pitch more effective. Understanding these issues completely will give you the upper hand in your meetings on Capitol Hill. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the scenario and be introduced to the role players. Directly after this seminar, all players will be in their roles from this point forward, so you will have the opportunity to begin lobbying them when you see them throughout the night!
Time to put what you have learned into action! Put your game face on and have your lobbying pitch ready because it is time to testify in front of a mock U.S. Senate Committee! Prizes will be given to the group with the best presentation.
