Testing Information - Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC)
What is the CRC?
The Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC) is a special-training certification designed for those who either currently work or would like to begin working in the broadcast captioning or CART captioning fields.
CRC Certification Process
- Attend the CRC Workshop, available as an on-demand e-seminar or offered at NCRA's annual convention.
- Take the CRC online skills test (literary matter at 180 wpm) with a 96 percent accuracy.
- Take the written knowledge test, which follows the written knowledge test schedule currently in place.
Individuals who passed the CRR prior to November 2011 are eligible for an exception granted by CAPR and do not need to take the CRC skills test. This applies until December 31, 2017. For more information, visit the Certified Realtime Reporter information page.
Online Skills Test Registration - Quarter 4
All candidates are required to read Online Skills Test information prior to registering and taking their test.
Register selecting "attempt 1" if you have not yet taken an test this quarter; "attempt 2" if you have already taken "attempt 1" for this quarter; and "attempt 3" if you have already taken "attempt 1" and "attempt 2" for this quarter.
Once you register for an exam you will receive a confirmation email from Realtime Coach within three business days. Your confirmation email will contain scheduling information for your exam. All exams must be scheduled and taken within 30 days of your confirmation email. Please remember to wait until you receive this confirmation to schedule your exam. You must schedule all exams 72 hours in advance. If you do not receive an email confirmation within three days of your registration please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Written Knowledge Test Registration
IMPORTANT: Before you register for the Written Knowledge Test, please make sure that your FIRST and LAST names on your picture ID are exactly the same as your NCRA record. You will not be able to enter the testing center if the names don't match (They do not check middle names).
All candidates are required to read Written Knowledge Test information prior to registering and taking their test. Please refer to the CRC Job Analysis for a breakdown of what the Written Knowledge Test covers.

- October 8-22, 2018 (Registration period: September 1-30, 2018)
