NCRA President extends thanks to all who participated
I would like to take a moment to send a big thank-you to everyone who participated in making our first National Court Reporting and Captioning Week a resounding success. From school and college-hosted open houses that spotlighted the benefits of the wonderful and rewarding court reporting and captioning professions, and the countless and frequent articles in papers across the country quoting NCRA members within their own communities, to our tremendous social media campaign, and the many community demonstrations including producing transcripts of veterans’ oral histories, the excitement of this major grassroots event and coming together by everyone was overwhelming. I even heard that that one of our members received flowers from a client in appreciation of her excellent service!
Think about the huge impact this event had on increasing the public’s awareness of our profession through celebrating and highlighting the invaluable contributions court reporters make to the legal and the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities each day, and by showcasing the tremendous career opportunities that are available through stenographic reporting and captioning.
I have no doubt that we will continue to hear about events that marked our first ever National Court Reporting and Captioning Week in the months to come, but perhaps one of the most exciting events of the week was U.S. Rep. Ron Kind’s, D-Wisc., recognition of February 17 – 23 as National Court Reporting and Captioning Week in the Congressional Record on February 14, by acknowledging “the hard work of our court reporters and broadcast captioners nationwide.”
Let’s keep the excitement going and commit to spread the word about our wonderful and rewarding profession every week of the year.
