Court reporters storm Capitol Hill
Meet with legislators on the importance of the Local Courthouse Safety Act
From March 3-5, state leaders from many of NCRA’s affiliate associations gathered in Tysons Corner, Va., to take part in the 2013 Legislative Boot Camp. This unique program is offered by NCRA’s Government Relations Department and provides training on how to advocate for the stenographic court reporting profession. At the conclusion of the program, a group of 40 state leaders, along with NCRA’s Board of Directors representing 27 states, traveled to Capitol Hill and walked the halls of Congress. Their purpose was to educate members of Congress on one issue of critical importance to the court reporting profession, the Local Courthouse Safety Act.
State leaders received two days of training to prepare for visits with members of Congress and their staffs arranged by NCRA's Government Relations staff. Seminars on politics, grassroots lobbying, communicating effectively with Congressional staff, networking tips, and public relations helped provide the tools that state leaders can utilize to advocate for court reporters at a local level in their home states. NCRA offers this training to help give affiliate associations assistance when combating important issues.
