NCRA Supports Congressional Hearing Health Caucus
On February 8, the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus held a briefing with co-chairs Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA) and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) in attendance. NCRA strongly supports the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus and will continue to attend briefings and meet with members of Congress to ensure that our CART providers and closed captioners are represented on Capitol Hill. The briefing was given to members of Congress, Congressional staffers, members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, and other interested groups.
NCRA would like to thank Rep. Latham and Rep. McCarthy, two integral players in furthering awareness of issues pertaining to the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities to the US Congress. The Hearing Health Caucus had been inactive for the past several years before Rep. Latham and Rep. McCarthy resurrected it just a few months ago. Several additional events sponsored by the caucus will be held on Capitol Hill over the coming year and NCRA plans on continuing to support the caucus.
The event featured a briefing on "How the Military and Veterans Administration Are Handling the Surge in Hearing Loss/Tinnitus Cases Related to Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq." Also, NCRA would like to extend a special thanks to Sherry C. Knox, CBC, CCP, who provided CART services for the event.
