New realtime training task force assembles in Chicago
Taking Realtime Awareness and Innovation Nationwide, or TRAIN, NCRA's grassroots realtime task force, met in Chicago during the weekend of January 7-8 to develop a nationwide grassroots realtime training plan. NCRA membership told the Board that such a task force was needed through the Writing Our Future surveys conducted throughout 2010 and 2011, and the Board responded by charging this task force with developing a nationwide model that can be used to train effective realtime court reporters.
The task force plans on working with state associations, freelance reporting firms, and courthouses to work on training court reporters to become effective realtime writers. A realtime court reporter is the most technologically advanced method of capturing the record, and NCRA's TRAIN plans on working to ensure that the number of court reporters capable of providing realtime to judges and attorneys increases over the coming year. The committee includes Sarah Nageotte (Ohio), Toni O'Neill (Calif.), Viola Zborowski (N.J.), Mary Burzynski (Wis.), Lisa Knight (Colo.), Regina Tell (N.J.), Linda Kaiser (Texas), Sue Terry (Ohio), and Ron Cook (Wash.). The committee invites all NCRA members interested in the realtime training program to attend their introductory session at TechCon, NCRA's spring continuing educational program, on Sunday, February 26 at 8:00am.
