Technology Tips for Students: Get the Basics Right First

January 24, 2011

NCRA’s Technology Evaluation Committee was asked what technologies students should know about to be court reporters today. Here are four things the committee thinks you should know about.

Want to Provide Realtime? Get an Air Card

Sandy VanderPol, RMR, CRR, a realtime freelance reporter in Lotus, Calif., and chair of NCRA’s Technology Evaluation Committee, said, “The most valuable technology I can use that provides all aspects of our technological, value-added services is my Air Card, recently updated to 4G speed. Although an Air Card is not new technology, it is what makes my realtime business work. It’s really about providing a connection to Internet realtime streaming, wireless realtime with Internet access to the client at the depo site, immediate roughs after the conclusion of the deposition, access to e-mails while on the job, access to Bing (or Google) for research while reporting, using the Dropbox and uploading work units to my scopist with audio – and my list could go on and on. All this could not be done without my Air Card.”
