Court Reporters Have to Get it Right — Now

It’s the middle of a monthlong murder trial and there’s an angry, emotional witness on the stand. He watched his brother get killed by the defendant and can hardly stand to be in the courtroom with the culprit, but he is eager to testify about what he saw and help secure a conviction. The witness’s words come fast and jumbled, making even more difficult the job of the court reporter who is transcribing every word the witness says.
