Ethics First Task Force Releases Second Video Aimed at Attorneys
The NCRA Ethics First Task Force has developed and released a new video targeted at attorneys, relaying to them the potential consequences of incentive gift-giving. The video is intended to educate lawyers, paralegals, and legal secretaries of the risks involved with employing court reporters or court reporting firms based on an incentive gift as opposed to credentials. This is the second video released by the task force. The first video sought to educate court reporters and court reporting firms as to why they should not be giving incentive gifts. The Ethics First Task Force also requests that all members pass along the video to their attorney contacts.
Ethics First is a grassroots movement that aims to create and maintain a positive effort to encourage reporters, firms, and all parties in litigation to promote the impartiality and the neutrality of the reporting profession and avoid inappropriate gift giving and gift acceptance. Court reporters and attorneys must work together to uphold the integrity of court records, and the Ethics First program has been charged by the NCRA Board of Directors to work with consumer organizations to promote the potential perils of incentive gifts. If you have not yet signed up for Ethics First, you can do so here. For more information, please contact the Ethics First Task Force.
