VITAC Launches Caption Awareness Campaign
VITAC has launched a national awareness campaign called CaptionsON. The objective is to raise awareness of the benefits that closed captions offer to over 50 million Americans who are deaf or hard of hearing or who are learning English.
The Web site for the initiative — www.captionson.com — includes an introductory video, information and resources for various audiences, and a Viewer Relations Bureau that lets viewers give feedback about captions to specific networks, local stations, and cable and satellite providers.
VITAC marked the launch of CaptionsON by announcing its intention to provide up to 150 hours of pro-bono service to nonprofit organizations for captioning audiovisual materials.
