    NCRF Hosts First VHP Day

    Veterans History Project

NCRF held it's first ever VHP Day at NCRA Headquarters on Saturday, January 14, 2012.

For this event, NCRF invited members of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to record their stories of service and sacrifice for the Library of Congress’ (LOC) Veterans History Project (VHP).  This one-day event was well attended with 14 veterans participating (including the fathers of two NCRA staffers). A number of local DAV and LOC volunteers were available to conduct the interviews and five local court reporters gave up their Saturday to record & transcibe these important American stories.

One-minute “after interviews” were conducted as people left, asking why they came in and how they felt about their experience, that video can be found on the NCRA YouTube channel.

If you, your school, or your organization would like to host a similar event, please contact Oral Histories Program Coordinator, Beth Kilker at Bkilker@ncra.org, or at 703/556-6272, ext. 174.
