This position is located in the Lake Charles Division of the Western District of Louisiana. Court Reporters are responsible for recording court proceedings in court and in chambers, for producing requested transcripts, and for filing required copies of transcripts with the Clerk of Court.

Court Reporters must comply with the requirements of the Judicial Conference of the United States Courts, Volume 6 of the Guide to Judiciary Policy, and the Plan for Management of Court Reporting Services for the District of New Mexico.     INTRODUCTION:  The Clerk’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Official Court Reporter. The position will be assigned to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia located in the Robert C. Byrd United States Courthouse at Charleston, West Virginia.   The successful candidate will maintain normal office hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The successful candidate may be required to travel occasionally within the Southern District of West Virginia to substitute for other Official Court Reporters as needed.  As part of the Operations section, the Court Reporter records verbatim all proceedings as directed, and reports to the Court Reporter/ECR Coordinator.  Court Reporters are guided by and responsible for following the policies and administrative procedures contained in the Court Reporter Management Plan for the Southern District of West Virginia.  The successful candidate should be a mature, responsible, and poised individual, who possesses tact, good judgment, initiative, and dynamic people skills.
