NCRA Committees & Task Forces
To help the Association function more effectively and address the needs of the membership, NCRA maintains a number of committees and task forces. 2016-2017 NCRA Committees, Councils, Task Forces
Broadcast and CART Captioning Committee identifies, develops, and updates programs, products, and services for the broadcast and CART captioning communities.
Certified Legal Video Specialist Council serves as faculty at the biannual CLVS seminar/forum and conducts the skills testing for CLVS certification; reviews and updates CLVS Standards; creates resources for the CLVS community; and reviews written CLVS exams.
CLVS WKT Item Writing Committee works with a ProExam consultant to write and edit questions (also known as items) for the CLVS written knowledge test. This Committee also reviews the CLVS job analysis and item bank.
Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC) Certification Committee develops and teaches the CRC workshop and written knowledge tests for the CRC exam; works with TAC as needed on any realtime or captioning items. Evaluates the changes within the profession and in consumer needs and preferences, and recommend general directions and long-term strategies to CAPR.
Committee on Professional Ethics is responsible for interpreting and enforcing the Code of Professional Ethics and the CLVS Code of Ethics in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and Bylaws; addresses all COPE complaints and creates content for the JCR; and reviews language in COPE and Complaint Procedures.
Constitution and Bylaws Committee reviews the Constitution and Bylaws and makes recommendations for amendments to the Board of Directors and the Membership. This committee also contributes to educational/PR content relating to NCRA’s Constitution and Bylaws.
Contests Committee prepares, conducts, and grades the national speed contest and the national realtime contest during the Annual Convention.
Council of the Academy of Professional Reporters is responsible for the development and administration of continuing education programs, credential examinations, and any additional programs assigned by the Board of Directors; works with NCRA staff and others as necessary to develop resources that allow court reporters to prepare for NCRA exams; oversees the appeal process for lost certifications; and documents CAPR’s policies and procedures for reinstatements, testing appeals, and all other necessary activities. The Constitution and Bylaws state that the Council shall consist of at least five Fellows, as well as voting representation from at least one consumer or public member.
Council on Approved Student Education is responsible for the certification and development of court reporter student training and education programs; maintains and updates the General Requirements and Minimum Standards, and assists in the creation of educational content for events and webinars when needed. The Constitution and Bylaws state that the Council shall consist of at least five members, including at least two Registered Reporters and at least three reporting educators from NCRA certified programs representing both public and private institutions.
Distinguished Service Award Committee recommends to the Board of Directors a recipient for the Distinguished Service Award. The Constitution and Bylaws state that this committee shall consist of five (5) members, who may be past recipients of the Distinguished Service Award.
Education Content Committee identifies, develops and organizes live and distance learning educational opportunities for NCRA members.
Education Content Committee for Firm Owners identifies, develops and organizes educational opportunities for the Firm Owners Conference.
Intersteno Committee provides oversight and direction into NCRA’s involvement in Intersteno and provides subject matter expertise to Intersteno on program content and contests.
National Committee of State Associations Governing Committee provides a forum for delegates appointed by affiliated reporter associations to exchange experiences, information, and various points of view about matters of current relevance to NCRA, affiliates, and the profession.
New Professionals Advisory Committee shall promote NCRA membership and involvement to all new professionals.
Nominating Committee interviews and identifies nominees for officers and directorships to be filled at the annual business meeting. The Constitution and Bylaws state that the committee shall consist of four Registered Members and the Immediate Past President.
PAC Governing Board NCRA PAC’s goal is to raise money through contributions in order to disburse those funds to supportive, key elected officials. NCRA PAC prides itself on judiciously and effectively contributing to political campaigns.
Proofreading Advisory Council provides assistance on questions of proofreading consistency on NCRA materials.
Skills Test Writing Committee is responsible for writing content for the RPR, RMR, CRR and CRC exams.
Student Committee develops the student seminar program for the Annual Convention, as well as content to be delivered online via the NCRA Institute. This committee also creates content and provides management support for the NCRA’s student website. Members work with other committees to keep students involved as they graduate and enter the profession.
Technology Committee assists in education content development created for NCRA webinars, the NCRA Institute, TechCon, Firm Owners, and the Annual Convention and Expo. The committee also researches current and emerging technologies for the purpose of educating the membership through consistent communications, and works in concert with the National Outreach Committee regarding external events.
Test Advisory Committee is responsible for writing and selecting the RPR, RMR, CRC and CRR skills tests. TAC also standard-sets the RPR and RDR written tests
Written Knowledge Test Committee writes and edits test questions for the RPR and RDR written knowledge tests. The committee works with a professional exam service consultant and a psychometrician to develop written knowledge test items.
