Has your certification lapsed?
In March 2014, NCRA instituted changes to its Credential Reinstatement Policy. This policy change affects all NCRA certifications. It is now a three-tier policy that affects reinstating individuals depending on how long ago the certification lapsed. As of March 2014, all individuals who have lapsed certifications are eligible for one of the reinstatement procedures below, regardless of whether they received a reinstatement under the old policy or under Amnesty.
Tier I: Reinstatement of credentials lapsed less than three years ago
This level of reinstatement may be taken only once per lifetime and will reinstate all certifications that lapsed less than three years ago. The individual will need to fill out the Reinstatement Application, which will require the following:
- Payment of current year dues*
- Payment of $110 reinstatement fee
- Once fees have been paid, the individual will have one (1) year in which to earn 1.0 CEU to reinstate the certification(s). During this period, the certification(s) will not be current.
- PDC credits may not be used towards this reinstatement requirement, and the unit must be earned during the year that starts with the processing of the fees.
- Once the individual has submitted and notified NCRA of completion of the continuing education requirement, the certification(s) will be reinstated, and the individual will have no less than three (3) years in which to complete the continuing education requirements for the certification(s).
- A letter will be emailed to the individual confirming reinstatement requirements have been met and providing the new cycle end-date.
Tier II: Reinstatement of credentials lapsed from three to less than seven years ago
This level of reinstatement may be taken only once per lifetime and will reinstate all certification(s) that lapsed between three to seven years ago. The individual will need to fill out the Reinstatement Application, which will require the following:
- Payment of current year dues*
- Payment of $110 reinstatement fee
- If the individual is only reinstating one certification (RSR, RPR, CRC, CMRS, CLVS, and CRI only): Once fees have been paid, the individual will have one (1) year in which to earn 2.0 CEUs to reinstate the certification. During this period, the certification will not be current.
- If the individual is reinstating more than one certification (CRR, RMR, RDR): Once fees have been paid, the individual will have one (1) year in which to earn 2.5 CEUs to reinstate the certifications. During this period, the certifications will not be current.
- PDC credits may not be used towards this reinstatement requirement, and the units must be earned during the year that starts with the processing of the fees.
- Once the individual has submitted and notified NCRA of completion of the continuing education requirement, the certification(s) will be reinstated, and the individual will have no less than three (3) years in which to complete the continuing education requirements for the certification(s).
- A letter will be emailed to the individual confirming reinstatement requirements have been met and providing the new cycle end-date.
Tier III: Reinstatement of credentials lapsed seven or more years ago
This level of reinstatement may be taken only once per lifetime and will reinstate the certification(s) as outlined below.
For lapsed holders of the RSR, individuals must recertify by completing all testing requirements and pay NCRA membership dues** to earn the RSR certification
For lapsed holders of the RPR, individuals must recertify by completing all testing requirements and pay NCRA membership dues** to earn the RPR certification.
For lapsed holders of the CRC, individuals must recertify by completing all testing requirements and pay NCRA membership dues** to earn the CRC certification.
For lapsed holders of the CLVS, individuals must recertify by completing all testing requirements and pay NCRA membership dues to earn the CLVS certification. See the note below regarding CLVS membership.*
For lapsed holders of the CRI, individuals must recertify by completing all testing requirements and pay NCRA membership dues** to earn the CRI certification.
For lapsed holders of CMRS, individuals cannot recertify this credential because NCRA no longer grants this certification.
For lapsed holders of RMR, RDR, and/or CRR, individuals must recertify by completing all testing requirements of the highest-level certification the individual wishes to reinstate, and complete the following:
- Payment of current year dues*
- Payment of $250 reinstatement fee
- Individuals will have one (1) year in which to take and pass the skills portion (RMR & CRR) or written knowledge test (RDR) of the highest-level certification the individual wishes to reinstate.
- The first retest fee(s) will be waived.
- The individual will have one (1) year in which to earn 1.0 CEU to reinstate the certifications.
- During this period, the certification(s) will not be current.
- PDC credits may not be used towards this reinstatement requirement, and the units must be earned during the year that starts with the processing of the fees.
- Once the individual has submitted and notified NCRA of completion of the continuing education requirement, the certification(s) will be reinstated, and the individual will have no less than three (3) years in which to complete the continuing education requirements for the certification(s).
- A letter will be emailed to the individual confirming reinstatement requirements have been met and providing the new cycle end-date.
Note: Individuals reinstating the RMR, RDR, and/or CRR who also held the CRC, CLVS, or CRI will need to follow the reinstatement directions for each credential.
* Individuals applying to reinstate only a CLVS certification are required to pay the CLVS certification renewal fee in lieu of joining NCRA and paying membership dues. Individuals applying to reinstate multiple certifications that include a CLVS certification must still join NCRA and pay membership dues as indicated.
**Nonmembers must join NCRA before using the RSR, RPR, CRC, or CRI designation. If you are a nonmember testing with NCRA and have passed all the legs required for a certification, you must join within 30 days of receipt of these results before using the designation. If you become a new member after passing all requirements, you need to notify the testing department so we can update your record to reflect your new certification.
